Xylophone, or “wood sound” in Greek, is part of the idiophone family. It consists of tuned wooden sticks which are played with mallets. Xylophones are arranged in the fashion of a piano, with the larger, lower-sounding bars on the left side. The player uses sticks, or beaters, to hit the wooden bars, sometimes as many as six at a time! Striking the bars with hard mallets produces a bright, sharp sound. Like many other tuned percussion, the xylophone is a great and fun way to start with learning music. It’s a basic yet great addition to any musical set if you consider adding more melodic effects to your music.
