The CLP-835 has three pedals with their individual Grand Touch action and Yamaha's slimmed-down Grand Touch action mechanism. By default, the three pedals are Sostenuto, Soft, and Damper/Sustain. Additionally, these pedals feature a wide range of assignable functions. These characteristics are essential for both maximising the use of contemporary technology for increased convenience and faithfully simulating the feel of an acoustic grand piano. 

Using speakers, the CLP-835 has a one-way speaker system that replicates the resonating body of an acoustic piano by using a set of diffusers that are tuned for clear bass frequencies. This diffuser arrangement lets the music to spread out in all directions. 

The high-quality models of two well-known grand pianos are included in this digital piano: the Austrian Bösendorfer Imperial and the Japanese Yamaha CFX Grand. All of the sounds of an acoustic piano, including the mechanical sounds of the hammers and dampers (which can be adjusted for the desired response), are audible when these pianos are combined with Yamaha's Virtual Resonance Modelling (VRM) and Grand Expression Modelling. The way that each "string's" harmonics interact with one another is where VRM truly shines.

The CLP-835 features USB to device (Playback/Recording: WAV), USB to Host as well as AUX in (3.5mm) and AUX out ([L/L+R] [R]) as well as Bluetooth Audio/MIDI.

This piano has a fluent integration with the Yamaha Smart Pianist app for smart devices, providing easy access to every parameter of the piano controls, as well as offering demo songs, and a multitude of piano lessons.
